A little about me...
Welcome to our class! I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. GO HORNS! I came to GISD in 2012 from Austin where I taught 4th grade for three years. This will be my sixth year in GISD and my third year at Pickett. I am very excited about this school year and looking forward to another fantastic school year.
Five years ago, I married my best friend . We live in the Pflugerville area and have a beautiful little two year old gir, Riley, and a 6 month old little boy, Ryker. My parents live in the Corpus Christi area, and I love to go visit them on holidays and weekends. I have one older sister who also lives in the Corpus area with her husband, and they have two daughter and a little boy. I enjoy spending my time outdoors as much as possible. I love going to the beach during the summer and going snowboarding during the winter months.
I am looking forward to a wonderful and successful year at Pickett Elementary.

My personal goal is to be a positive role model for all students and to provide a learning environment which includes respect for everyone. I will provide a safe haven for my students to explore math and research, encourage them to be lifelong learners, apply different concepts/strategies, and to teach them to genuinely enjoy learning. We all make mistakes, but we need to encourage each other and learn from our mistakes so we can become better students. I believe all students should have the opportunity to receive a great education that prepares them for life after high school.

I see 1st-5th grade gifted and talented studnets 4 days a week for 45 minutes. We will work on Project Based Learning projects and higher level thinking skills during this time. Please check take home folders for information regarding their work in the Gifted and Talented Classroom.
Teacher/Student Relationship and Learning
The safety and health of students and staff are the top priorities for everyone involved with the educational process
Students should feel loved, respected, and valued as a person and a learner
Research shows students learn best in a positive and interactive environment
Students and Teachers will be held to high expectations in the classroom as well as all common areas. (cafeteria, playground, hallway)
Behavior is best changed with frequent and immediate feedback using more positive reinforcement than negative consequences
Family support and involvement are imperative to a student's educational success
Communication should be open and frequent between teachers, students, parents, and families
