Mrs. Katherine Garrett

Hi there- call me Mrs. G. I'm so thrilled to be teaching Choir at Forbes MS!

My WHY: When people choose to become teachers, they know it comes with a lot of challenges. But even from a young age, I knew I wanted to change the world around me for the better. I wanted people to sing without shyness, treat each other with respect, and value the gifts and skills they bring to everything they do. I knew that sharing my love for singing and music with my students was the way to make those things happen.

I grew up in Houston with my parents, two brothers, and a sister. I graduated from Klein Forest High School, then headed to San Antonio for college, and received my Bachelors in Music from St. Mary's University (Class of 2005), followed by a Masters in Music Education from Texas State University (Class of 2012).

I followed my love for singing and theater by performing in many community theater musicals, eventually becoming the Music Director for Starz Youth Theater and working part-time as a voice teacher and a vocal soloist for churches and synagogues around San Antonio.

I started my teaching career in San Antonio ISD and Northside ISD, and headed up to the Austin area in 2013. This will be my eleventh year of teaching middle school choir, and my fourth with Georgetown ISD.

I still sing and do musical theater and voice coaching when I find the time. But even with a busy schedule, my choir kids are always my top priority.

When I'm not teaching or singing, I love writing, cooking, taking road trips, and spending quiet evenings at home with my rescue dog, a beagle/shepherd/hamster/monkey/ninja mix named Dolce.
