My Education & Teaching BackgroundI attended Southwestern University here in Georgetown, Texas. My first year teaching, I taught 3rd grade in Bastrop, Texas. From there, I spent four years in Round Rock teaching 3rd and 2nd, before coming to Georgetown. For five years, I taught Kindergarten at Carver, before coming to Pickett to teach 3rd. This is my sixth year at Pickett and I am thrilled to be here!I live in Georgetown with my husband and our two children. Sydney is ten, in 5th grade. John Patrick is eight and in 3rd grade this year. My family and I love going to ballet and theater performances, museums, and theme parks. We also have a Catahoula Leopard dog / Great Dane mix rescue dog named Nola Gray who is certainly a member of the family.
My Philosophy of EducationI believe every student can and should love coming to school and be successful in their learning. To achieve that goal, I encourage students to be responsible for their education and experience as much independence as possible. The physical space of my classroom is very student-centered with many different seating options and very few desks. The flow of the day is also geared for students with lots of choice in when and how to learn. I know that is a lot of freedom for eight (and nine) year old students, so I will spend most of the first nine weeks purposefully teaching self-management skills and establishing procedures and routines that will ensure student success. If you ever have a question or concern, please give me a call or send me an e-mail. You are the expert on your child and I am counting on your help and support this year and want you to know that I will help and support you as well. It takes a village to raise a child, and I am thrilled to be a part of your child's village!
