  • The Hue Poem, which was assigned last week, is due on this Friday, September 29. Remember that you must submit the rubric you were given along with your poem. On the rubric you need to write the pronouns and similes you used in your poem. To fill out pronoun part, use the Pronoun Reference sheet, which should be glued in your journal.

    Today in class we took notes on Dialogue (punctuation & capitalization of dialogue) and completed a practice (handout). Then we had time to work on our Plot Outlines (due tomorrow*).

    *Period 2 will have some time to work on Plot Outlines in class tomorrow prior to turning them in. 

    Anyone who didn't finish the dialogue practice handout will need to finish that for homework.

    Today we analyzed the plot f(illed out a plot diagram) of "Fish Cheeks" and also analyzed its use of the characteristics of a personal narrative (handout). This was done in preparation for planning the plot of our own personal narrative this week.

    If any student did not complete the plot/personal narrative analysis for "Fish Cheeks," he/she needs to complete it for homework.

    Today we read and annotated an excerpt from Amy Tan's "Fish Cheeks," which is an example of a personal narrative. We also started to answer some comprehension questions about the narrative. We will finish the questions tomorrow in class - no homework!

    We took Cornell Notes (see attached) over the video. We summarized the notes.




    Review notes and paste them into notebook. (There are two pages of notes, so paste them on opposite pages from each other.)

    We finished and presented our Figurative Language posters.

    We then took the quiz on "Highwayman". In Period 3, we were able to grade as a class. Periods 2 and 4 will need to grade quiz tomorrow.

    Station 1: In Station 1 students joined our Google Classroom and took a review/practice quiz for "Highwayman". 

    Station 2: 

    Period 2--Completed 1 - 8 in packet

    Periods 3 and 4--Worked on Figurative Language posters

    Period 3: Shortened class due to Rachel's Challenge assembly. We watched "Highwayman" video and submitted Hue Poems.

    Periods 4: We went over "Highwayman" questions. Today Hue Poems were due.
