In 1886, in search of wealth and political influence, France moved into Mali. France needed Mali to separate the territory of Europeans and Senegal. The French colonized Mali in 1892. The indigenous population was forced to work the farmland for the French.
In some ways, colonization helped the people of Mali. People in Mali got civil rights in 1930. African leaders from French-ruled land stood for independence.
President Modibo brought the people into freedom in 1962. France was not able to use the same money as Mali. The French were very mad that they no longer ruled Mali.
A problem that Mali faced after they became
independent was that Senegal decided to cut off letting Mali have their railroad
cross through their border to come to the coast for a few years. A problem they
are facing now is that there is lack of money, and only a few people are working
in factories which is a problem because you can’t produce enough.
