The British colonized Malawi in 1889. The British treated the natives horribly by treating them like they were peasants.

The colonization was not good for the natives of Malawi because the British treated the natives horribly. The people were being taxed to live in their own homes and on their own land. Also, they were forced to pay the British in cash to pay off their taxes.

The country of Malawi won its independence with an election which later was won by Banda’s Malawi Congress Party in 1967.

The country faced many problems after becoming independent. In the 1990’s they faced conflict with Mozambique which stopped needed items from going to other countries on the coast from the railroads. The country of Malawi still faces problems like limited mineral resources including limestone and coal. Malawi is a poor country.
