Germany and Great Britain colonized Namibia. Great Britain took over Walvis Bay as Germany took most of the rest of the country. The indigenous people were into wars, their land was taken away, and the people were sent to reserves. With no way to take control, many of them died.
Colonization of Namibia hurt this country. The Nama and Herero tribes were forced out of their homes and into reserves in the middle of nowhere. Some were even forced into the Waterberg Mountains and the Kalahari Desert. Many died when they were left with no food or water. Those who didn’t go were forced into concentration camps, also to meet their deaths. In 1915 South Africa took control of Namibia. They enforced harsh rules and made them do what they said.
Namibia became independent in 1990. After a civil war in South Africa the leader there couldn’t maintain control so they let them go.
After becoming independent Namibia had to deal with South Africa refugees. Today they are faced with health problems like AIDS and HIV. The people their have short lives and there is poor health treatment.Works Cited
