The European nation of Portugal colonized Nigeria. The Europeans used the Nigerians for slaves and treated them poorly though it was the Nigerians’ land that the Portuguese had taken over.
Colonization hurt the indigenous people because it forced the Nigerians to be slaves and it caused war between the tribes.
The country of Nigeria fully won their independence in the year 1960. They won their independence by battling in a war that was fought between Igbo the tribe and the rest of Nigeria.
Once Nigeria became independent some additional problems that they faced were that the military had taken over from the year 1979 to 1983. Some additional problems that they are facing today are that the military is still in control, although they had said that they would only be in power for a few years.
