In the late 1890’s the French colonized the Central African Republic. Later the French were forced to hand over some power because Chad and lots of other countries joined together to face the French. Then they never messed with the Central African Republic again.

The Arab slave raiders killed a lot of people and it was very horrible what they did.  The Berlin conference of 1885 to 1889 decided how the Europeans seized the African lands. France licensed seventeen private companies. Most people were forced into labor and were treated with little more respect than slaves. The Central Republic of Africa soon gained its independence when David Drako was elected as the first president of the Central African Republic. He helped the country out a lot.
