WELCOME TO A BRAND-NEW YEAR! WELCOME TO A BRAND-NEW YEAR! WELCOME TO A BRAND-NEW YEAR! WELCOME TO A BRAND-NEW YEAR!  WELCOME TO A BRAND-NEW YEAR! WELCOME TO A BRAND-NEW YEAR!

In 1946,
Senator Fulbright led an initiative for the
establishment of a program
to promote better understanding and communication
among cultures.
This program was named in his honor.

In 1996,
the Japanese government established the
Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund as a separate
organization to launch the JFMF Teacher Program.
The JFMF programs exclusively deal with exchanges
between US and Japanese educators.

In November, 2004, I had the good fortune to be awarded a 3-week trip to Japan,
as a participant in the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program.
Part of the responsibility entailed in receiving this incredible opportunity
was to share what I'd seen.

To share my information with my students, I created a power point presentation
using photographs I took during my trip.
Here are photos taken during the presentation,
which took place during 2 consecutive days in our school library
(click to see larger version; use the back arrow on your browser to return to this page):

On Day 1, Mrs. Bencivenga appeared in her kimono and wig!

Mrs. B. with students.

On Day 2, Mrs. Bencivenga wore her happi coat.

She showed her obi and other artifacts from her trip.
