ACCELL READING

    To increase fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, it is necessary for students to have repeated readings of text until it is familiar.  In order to help students master these skills, several strategies are employed:

bulletOral reading by students
bulletChoral readings
bulletTeacher read
bulletBuddy read
bulletSilent read
bulletManipulative activities that stress fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension
bulletUse of easy-to-read picture books to practice fluency and
dramatic expression

 

DYSLEXIA

    Dyslexia students are taught Neihaus Basic Language Skills  and strategies.   Repeated verbalization of syllable patterns are stressed along with daily spelling, handwriting, and reading practice.  Extended reading and oral language activities are incorporated into the lessons.
