Pre-AP Notebook Pre-AP Student Work Pre-AP Projects Pre-AP Assignments

Basics of Science

Each student will be issued a textbook that will stay at home and a Guided Reading Workbook that will remain in the classroom unless needed for homework.  A classroom set of textbooks will be available for use at school.

Homework  Students will have a period of time when they will have homework every night and than a  period of time when they will  not have homework for a couple of weeks.  It  depends upon the topic of study.  If you are unsure about homework, check my website (assignments page).  I try to keep it updated weekly.

Language of the Discipline:  Each week students will receive a list of vocabulary words with definitions.  There words will be directly related to the unit of study for the week.  They will have a quiz on the words and definitions every Friday.  The grade will count as two daily grades.  A copy of the words may be found on my website (language of discipline page).

Notes:   There will be a set of notes for each unit of study.  These notes will be in the form of thinking maps or foldable style.  These notes are what the unit test will be based on.  The notes will be available on my website (Notes page).

Labs:  Labs include all hands on activities that we do in class.  A lab is not just about using chemicals.  There will be 2 or more labs a week depending upon the topic of study.  Pre-AP labs will focus on written lab reports as well as have a greater emphasis on math and the relation to science.

Projects:  Students will have a project or two due each nine weeks.  Projects will be related to unit of study.  Class time will be given to work on projects, however extra time may be needed outside of class.  There will be one at home inquiry lab project that will span over three semesters.  You student will receive information about it at the end of the 1st nine weeks.

Exams Students will be given an exam at the end of each unit.  A review sheet or packet will be put together for each exam.  Exams will cover notes, language of the discipline, and labs for each unit.

Daily grades count as 40%  while tests/projects count as 60% of the final nine week grade.  During a nine week period there will be at least 15 daily grades and at least 3 test/project grades.
