An Eighth Grade Pathfinder
 

 In order to effectively study The Diary of a Young Girl: Anne Frank, it is necessary to understand the cultural and historical context in which she wrote. The following is a list of questions that will provide some important background information: persons, events, and vocabulary.

  1. Write a short biography of Adolf Hitler.
  2. What are civil liberties?
  3. What was the Gestapo/SS?
  4. What was the significance of the yellow star of David?
  5. What is Zionism?
  6. What is a dictator?
  7. Who was Joseph Goebbels? What is propaganda?
  8. What were concentration camps? What happened there?
  9. What was the role of Germany during World War II?
  10. Who were Allies during the war?
  11. Who were the Axis nations during the war?
  12. What were the Nazis?
  13. Why were Jewish people persecuted during Hitler’s regime?
  14. Who was Heinrich Himmler?
  15. What was the Final Solution?
  16. What is Genocide?
  17. What did Hitler mean by the Aryan race?
  18. What is blitzkrieg?
  19. Define the term ghetto and how did it relate to the Jews.
  20. Define Holocaust.
  21. Define Juden.
  22. Discuss the “Night of broken glass.”
  23. What were the Nuremberg laws?
  24. What were the Nuremberg trials?
