A musical genre is a grouping of music by certain shared characteristics. In the twentieth century several "new" sounds developed. Often individuals or groups became identified with these musical forms. This project is a talent search...Who are these artists? When were they most influential? Where did they or their music originate? What are the characteristics of their style? How have they influenced the music of today?

Your assignment is to research one of the following:
1) The Beatles
2) Elvis and Rockabilly
3) Folk music (Bob Dylan/Woody Guthrie)
4) Jazz (Duke Ellington/Miles Davis)
5) Motown (Diana Ross/Temptations)...include Gospel and Soul

To demonstrate your new knowledge you will:
1) produce a report that includes at least 5 paragraphs on the focal artist(s) and at least 5 additional paragraphs that describe the musical genre and any other artists or groups that are prominent in that genre.
2) produce a "concert playbill" based on examples that will serve as a cover page for the report.
3) create an oral summary/skit based on collected information.
4) create a concert poster that is aesthetically pleasing, includes the names of the artists/groups, incorporates the time period, and includes appropriate pictures/images.

Your research should include a minimum of 1 print source and 1 electronic database. It may include websites from reliable sources.
