A BRIEF HISTORY OF TUNISIA

My country was colonized by the French in 1878. The French did not treat the indigenous people with any respect because they just shoved the people out of the land leaving many people homeless. The only advantage to this is that French helped build up the country by giving  schools, railways, roads, and hospitals so over all it helped a little but mainly hurt them.

In word war II Germans fought in Tunisia for about six months from November 1942. The Axis powers were then defeated in North Africa. In 1943 Tunisia took over from the free French. In 1956 Tunisia won its full independence.

In the past they had a few problems like their government went bankrupt so they had to borrow heavily from Britain, France, and Italy. These countries sought political mileage out of Tunisia’s debt. Some problems they have today are high food priced need for petroleum.

If this country had never been colonized I think there would be a lot more religious people and there would be fewer railways, hospitals, schools, and roads because the French would not have built anything for them if they did not live there, and I think there would be more religious people because they would not have been shoved out of their land.
