A BRIEF HISTORY OF ALGERIA
The French were the ones who colonized Algeria in the 1830's. The French and Algerians did not get along. Later the Algerians started a war called the Algerian War of Independence.
The French hurt the Algerians, because they would make them have more taxes to pay and fewer privileges. They weren’t treated really well. Some of the things they did were tear down their religious buildings, take their farmlands, and made them pay all of the taxes. One time Algerians had set a bomb to show that they were tired of the French telling them what to do.
Algeria won their independence by going to war with France. The day they won was June 19, 1965.
They were having problems with the socialists' programs, and trying to get the economy back where it needed to be. Today there are political problems, and in 2003 the had a big earthquake killing more than 2000 people. There are terrorism attacks in Algeria.
I think Algeria would have been better of if no one had colonized Algeria, because the French had destroyed the religious buildings. So it took awhile to rebuild the all of buildings and restore their religion. Not everybody was the same, because some people were Muslim and some were Christian.
