A BRIEF HISTORY OF DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
Belgium colonized the Democratic Republic of the Congo and terrorized all of the people there. The natives were not very pleased with all this slavery going on. The country that we love for its waffles had many riches and plenty of wrong ways to get them. The rubber and ivory traders were the ones to blame. The rubber and ivory traders of Belgium terrorized the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They took the women and children as hostages. They made the men find them rubber and ivory. If the men did not collect enough the traders cut off their hands.
The colonization of the Democratic Republic of the Congo really hurt the natives. Fighting was not uncommon. Many were killed in wars because of all this. Until a revolution overthrew the man in charge, nothing would happen. The problems were surrounding them. Slavery was not uncommon. They would go into the woods to get rubber and all they would get was their hands chopped off. Even if they did get enough supplies their families would still be in danger.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo gained its freedom with the help of the United States of America. It was on June 30th, 1960. They had to overthrow the kidnappers and luckily they did. The Aftermath is still there unfortunately.
The problems that occurred after they won were Civil Wars mostly. They were fighting because everything was out of shape. Everything went wrong, no person could agree with another even though they were using their own old laws. Belgium caused such major damage that the problems are still here today. There is still way too much fighting. Security problems are severe year round and no police to help out. There needs to be a compromise or something to make the fighting stop. There is about the same amount of deaths as there were in the war before.
This country would be almost as it was before it was colonized by the Belgians. It maybe could have been even better. The medical care would have been better, along with the literacy rate and education. The Belgians could find another country to bug.
