A BRIEF HISTORY OF NAMIBIA
Namibia was first colonized by the Germans in 1884. In 1904 they massacred tens of thousands of Herero who had resisted the German’s colonies. It really hurt their population. This is why they have such a low population density even today. During World War I the Germans lost and gave the Namibian territory to South Africa. South Africa was not the kindest ruler, so the people in Namibia had a revolution and won themselves a country. The revolution also helped lower the population. After they won their independence they elected a president for two terms. They liked their president so much that they amended the constitution so that he could have a third term. They also had the burden of getting equal rights for Germans who already lived there. If this country had never been colonized there would be a huge population of uneducated people sitting in mud huts under South African rule, which might not be a bad thing.
