A BRIEF HISTORY OF CÔTE D'IVOIRE
The French colonized the country of Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast). The French treated them very, very poorly. They sold them to European countries. The population went down and the French moved in.
The colonization hurt the indigenous people as their population decreased. They were sold as slaves. They were to work without stopping.
The French wanted the slaves, and so did the other countries. After WWII they won their independence. Cote D’Ivoire was finally free.
Once the country became independent they faced a problem. They were protesting to get a leader. Then the first presidential election happened. They are still facing problems today. In September, 2006 a terrorist dumped toxic waste in Abidjan. The severity level was extreme danger.
