A BRIEF HISTORY OF ALGERIA
The French took over Algeria in 1830. They took away religion and mosques were turned into churches.
They hurt the people by taking away the cultures of their ancestors.
They got their independence by forming an army to fight back, and on July 5, 1962 it became its own country .
The first ruler was thrown out by the military on June 19, 1965. For the next 30 years Algeria had problems. The leaders were overthrown and assassinated. There has been violence, bombing and civil war daily since 1993. Foreigners can be murdered or kidnapped and then murdered.
