A BRIEF HISTORY OF SOUTH AFRICA
The British colonists arrived in 1820. This marked the beginning of a long dispute between the British and the Boers. When the Boers moved down south they got into conflicts with African tribes. In 1902 the British defeated the Boers and South Africa became apart of their empire. The British treated the Africans badly because they used them to work for them and they killed a lot of them.
Colonization hurt the Africans. Most of the problems were slavery, and they did not treat them right.
In 1945 Jan Smuts brought the nation into World War II on the Allied side. That is when South Africa got its independence from the Europeans.
Even after South Africa got its independence they were still having problems with blacks and whites fighting. Now they are having problems with AIDS and their government.
