A BRIEF HISTORY OF CONGO REPUBLIC CONGO

The European nation that had control over Congo was France. France treated Congo’s population very badly. They took some of the population and made them do forced labor. They were also taking all their natural resources.

The Europeans treated Congo badly and took all their stuff, so they hurt them. They took a lot of the natural resources like ivory, tropical hardwood, and rubber. They also took the local population and used it as forced labor.

They got their independence in 1960 by having a rebellion. They also had help with the rebellion; the people that helped were from Chad. They had this war in the time of World War II and the people they were fighting with were from the Vichy government of France.

The problems that they had after their independence were letting their pals back home from France come and pillage their land. Some of the problems that they are having today are civil wars.

If the Europeans had not come, they would probably would be slaves. Loango would still be the largest kingdom. If they had not come they also would be in the same groups also know as kingdoms. The names of the kingdoms were Loango, Kongo, and Tio.
