A BRIEF HISTORY OF TUNISIA

The European Country that colonized Tunisia is France. The French treated the indigenous unfairly. They were They needed a place to stay, so the indigenous people had to give up some of their land.

Colonization helped and hurt the indigenous people. The indigenous people still had to give up land and go into slavery, and pay taxes. The French were helping the indigenous people named by growing food so therefore jobs were opening up for growing crops.

Tunisia won their independence because during World War II , the Germans fought in Tunisia for six months. So the French promised to lead them to independence. After a long six months, Tunisia was pronounced independent March 20, 1956.

The result was limited self-rule and most Neo-Destour (the important people, in the country known as the president or the mayors) members rejected the offer of independence. Bourguiba finally became president and was re-elected four times in a row. The constitution was amended to make him president-for-life. After he died they had another election which caused a lot of controversy, so they elected Ben Ali who had represented Bourguiba.

If Tunisia hadn’t been colonized there would be a greater population of animals in the surrounding area. Not only would there be a greater population of animals, but in other countries in Africa there would be a greater population of humans.
