A BRIEF HISTORY OF CÔTE D'IVOIRE
France and the Independent Nations split Cote D’Ivoire and colonized it. Many other countries in Africa were colonized and the people were treated poorly. They made them slaves to work their own land. They also forced them to become Christians.
When the French colonized it both hurt and helped the native people. The French taught the natives to grow cocoa and coffee. Trade routes were also established. A war broke out between the French and the natives.
The natives decided to make a political party. That party was known as the Democratic Party. Things got violent and France declared them independent.
After they won their independence there were other problems. Cocoa and coffee prices dropped. Many people in Côte D'Ivoire were out of jobs. Today people move to the city to find work, but they often couldn't, so some people steal to make a living. There are also civil war tensions and waste is dumped in the water.
I think that if the French never colonized Cote D’Ivoire they’d be doing poorly. They might not know how to grow crops or fish.
