A BRIEF HISTORY OF CAMEROON

Germany was the first country to colonize Cameroon. Then the French came in and took over. The indigenous people were used as slaves and treated very badly. Most were used as plantation workers.

It helped them in some ways. It helped build a territory for them. However, it also hurt them. Many of the slaves died from the abuse. They were not getting a good education either.

Cameroon has been independent since January 1, 1960. There are still a lot of French people living in Cameroon. Cameroon is  experiencing some disputes with Nigeria. They are arguing over who should get the Bakassi Peninsula.

I think there would be a lot less growth there if the Germans had not come. The Germans built many plantations and factories. This has helped the progress of the country tremendously. It has also helped them to grow in technology.
