A BRIEF HISTORY OF CHAD
In the late eighteen hundreds France came to Chad. Also, at that time France and other Europeans were in a race to take power over of as much Africa as they could. The French finally took over Chad in 1897.
The French treated the indigenous people of Chad pretty badly. They were sent south to work on railroads in Middle Congo. Others were taken from their villages to work on cotton plantations.
In the year 1947 Chad started looking for its independence. They had a slogan that said “No more cotton, no more chiefs, no more taxes.” Self government was given to Chad in 1958, but finally the full independence came in 1960.
