A BRIEF HISTORY OF MALI

In the 1900s-1950s, the European country, France, colonized Mali. The people of Mali demanded to be freed from the power of France, but then the Muslims took over. Then they had a war  over Mali with Senegal. And Senegal won the war and took over Mali.

When Senegal took over, they treated the indigenous population fairly good. They started to trade salt, and cloth. They also traded in gold, ivory, and slaves.

In 1866, the French explorers arrived. They were in search of wealth and political influence.

Colonization helped France  because it let the people from France do the things they needed to do and farming went by quicker when they had more than one slave. It also helped the French people because they didn't have to go through pain and effort to get their crops done. But for the slaves, nothing got better for them. They had to work all day and didn't get to do the things that THEY wanted to do. Colonization also helped with cross-Sahara, the Europeans began to grow rich and strong, they also made long distance trade routes.
