A BRIEF HISTORY OF TANZANIA:
The Portuguese moved into Tanzania in the 1500's. They came to Tanzania looking for wealth along the coastal strips. When the countries were split up Germany took Tanzania. Germany treated the people poorly and took advantage of them.
The people of Tanzania were severely hurt due to Germany enslaving them and forcing them to pay taxes with cash instead of labor. This also kept the peasants from growing crops for their families.
In 1961 Tanzania won it’s independence by campaigning and gaining help from peasants and workers across Tanzania. Julius Nyerere lead this campaign and later became Prime Minister.
