A BRIEF HISTORY OF DJIBOUTI
Djibouti was colonized by the French Somaliland who gained home rule.
The French wanted to buy the port of Obock from the local Afar sultan in 1862 to be the number one shipping company when the Suez Canal opened. Djibouti voted against independence because the French offered aid, economic, and military security.
Djibouti had a huge problem. The Suez Canal had conflicts with Egypt and Israel during 1967 through 1975. This conflict seriously affected the continuance of Djibouti as a seaport. Djibouti finally wanted independence after a decade of terrorism and they got their independence in1977 as Djibouti.
