A BRIEF HISTORY OF MOZAMBIQUE
My country is Mozambique and it was colonized by Portuguese in 1890. They came from the coast lured by reports of the wealthy gold trade in the Africa interior and wanted to set up supply posts for their voyages to Asia.
The Europeans sacked rich Swahili towns and tore down mosques and used coral rock from the mosques to build fortresses and also took away the Ivory Trade.
Colonization did not help the indigenous people because the Portuguese men broke away and married African women and became local chiefs. This hurt the people because the prazeros ruled big estates and treated the local Africans as their subjects.
In 1976 Mozambique won its independence, fighting against Frelimo.
