Texas Road Trip
An Seventh Grade Pathfinder

You are going on a road trip through Texas, the largest state in the lower forty-eight.

  • Beginning in Georgetown, you will plan a trip of your choice, visiting various cities around the state and traveling a total of 2,500 miles.

  • Estimate the time between your destination and actual mileage.

  • For each city that you visit you must collect information on the elevation, natural resources, state parks, industries, cultural sites, and other points of interest.

  • You must locate rivers, lakes and other major physical characteristics on a map.

  • You must also determine regional information on soil type, vegetation, temperature, climate and rainfall.

  • Since Texas is still experiencing significant growth you will compare the population of your cities from 1850 to 2000.

  • You will keep a trip log recording the number of miles you travel each day, how many hours you travel, the number of days it takes to make your journey, and the coordinates (the latitude and longitude) of each city that you visit.

  • You will contribute to a large poster that includes a measurement scale, and a legend or key.

Below you will find links to a variety or resources, some in print but most are from the Internet. Please use these sources as they have been specifically chosen to help you complete this assignment.
