Online Databases
Benold Library has just
acquired an online subscription to some of the Marshall Cavendish Digital
materials. These include four science databases: Exploring Life Science,
Earth and Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Growing Up with Science for
students at all levels. In addition, the Peoples of Europe will benefit 6th
grade researchers.
Additional selections are
planned for the next budget cycle. All online resources may be accessed from
home. Be sure to get the passwords from Mrs. Huba. |

Literacy Walk
2008--Walk ON!!
The Fifth Annual Benold Literacy Walk took place the
Friday before spring break, March 14, 2008. In spite of temperatures in the
nineties, it was a day of
exercise, fun, and food! Once again the Language Arts teachers and P.T.A. parents
teamed up to make this event a great way to start off the vacation. Thanks
to all who contributed their time and made donations to the concession
stand.
Pledges plus concession produced one of the highest grossing
events ever. Proceeds benefit the library and the language arts
curriculum. Past purchases include audio books, class set novels,
books for the library, and AR quizzes.
netTrekker is also funded
through the activity fund. Your continued support for the library and its
mission is greatly appreciated.
Last year, Mrs. Huba managed to complete 50 laps over the
course of the day thanks to the encouraging words of students, parents, and
staff. Unfortunately, it was so hot that she only managed 42 laps this
time...maybe next spring.

READING is SUPER!!
Scholastic Book Fair at Benold Library
WOW!! What a super time we had at
the "Reading is SUPER" Scholastic Book Fair. There was an amazing array of
books and other selections. Many, many thanks to all who supported the Book
Fair by attending our Super Football Party. A lucky Benold student took home
the autographed football and photograph of Mason Crosby and two adult
winners received the "Ladies Night Out" and the "Family Game Night" gift
baskets.
Special thanks to our
hard-working volunteer crews who came to decorate and dismantle and covered
50 hours of sales time behind the cash register. We could not manage this
event with out the organizational ability of Mariann Jones, the creativity
of Colleen Phillips, and the volunteer calls made by Christy Murphy.
Additional thank yous go to the
Andersons from Daylight Donuts for the donut tokens and to Karen Crosby for
getting our autographs for us.
The National Junior Honor Society
also did well thanks to those who came to support Nacho Night.
We hope everyone had fun and
found a great book. Our next Book Fair is in the fall.

Log in to DESTINY
Destiny
is the program that allows students to look up books,
the replacement for the old "card catalog." This is web-based and can be
accessed from any computer connected to the Internet. Now students have a
"login" for Destiny that allows
them extra privileges.
First, students have a "My Info" tab that allows them to see
checkouts, overdues, and fines on their record. Next, they can generate
individual book and website lists. The program will also create citations
from these selections.
One last feature that students may use is to request their
own holds for books. Students who would like to learn more about this item
should visit with Mrs. Huba.

suggestions. Also checkout some of Mrs. Huba's latest reads on the Book Blog.
Don't forget you can
share your favorites on the
Benold Book Blog
too.
Check out Georgetown
Public Library not only for books but great teen events this summer.
