Home Page. We serve 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students with their behavior and
academic needs.

Background Information:
Mr. Cerda
- Bachelor of Science
from Southwest Texas State University.
- 12 years of
experience in education.
- Prior to working for
GISD, I taught and coached at Comal ISD and Royal ISD.
- I am married and my
wife is also a teacher for GISD.
- I have one daughter
who attends GISD.
- I am excited and
look forward to working with the students at Benold Middle School.

This
is my first year in public schools. I have spent the last five
years in the psychiatric hospital setting working with adolescents
with behavioral issues. I am very excited to be a part of
Benold Middle School and look forward to working with our students.

My
strengths are crisis intervention, implementing behavior
modification plans, and social skills training.

I am currently enrolled at
Central Texas College in Killeen, Texas working on Associates Degree
in At-Risk Youth Specialization.

I am
married. My husband is currently in Phoenix, Arizona attending
school.

have two children in the Florence ISD. My daughter is
13-years-old and an 8th grader. My son is 17-years-old and a
senior in high school.

Throughout the year, the SOAR department will assist our students
in social skills training utilizing the Why Try? Program, as well as other
approved social skills curriculum. As we observe the students throughout the
year, we will determine in what areas the students need assistance.
Various types of social skills training topics will be used throughout the year. Some topics are, but not limited to:
- Problem Solving Skills & Creating Action Plans
- Time Management & Organization Skills
- Setting & Obtaining Goals
- Anger Management & Conflict Resolution
- Defense Mechanisms: What They Are & How to Change Them
- Self-Esteem Improvement
