Volunteer Opportunities for parents and students

Parent volunteers can assist in the clinic in various ways: (1) help with health screenings on designated days.  Parents are utilized to do height/weight, record results and for those trained to do so, check blood pressure and pulse.  (2) Parents are also used to cover the clinic in my absence during monthly nurse's meetings or during my absence, in the event that a nurse substitute is not available. Please call, email or come by the clinic if you are interested in volunteering.

Cleaning out closets and getting rid of clothes that don't fit?

Benold Middle School would love to have clean, school appropriate T-shirts, jeans, belts, socks and coats that your child may have outgrown or simply does not wear.  Many times kids need to change clothes here at school and it is difficult for parents to bring clothes to school - having clothes on hand that can be loaned out is a big help.  If you run across clothes that your child may have "been loaned" from the clinic, please return after the item has been washed.  Thanks in advance for any donations to our clothes closet.

Considering a career in health care, eighth graders?

Eighth grade students interested in a career in health care may choose to apply to serve as a clinic aide as an elective semester class.  This is a limited opportunity as only one student will be allowed in the clinic during a class period and the student must apply, be interviewed, provide two teacher recommendations from teachers here at Benold who have taught them, before being accepted for this opportunity.  Students must be able to maintain confidentiality in regards to information regarding students and staff seen in the clinic. Students that are interested need to see their 8th grade counselor and then see me for the appropriate application and teacher recommendation forms.

I would also encourage 8th graders to sign up for Health Science Technology courses at GHS if interested in a health career.  Please be aware that there is a student organization, HOSA (Health Occupations of America) that offers activities/competitions for students.  Visit www.hosa.org
