Frequently Asked Questions
Is my information confidential?
Because GISD is a public entity, your application is considered a public document and is subject to disclosure, upon request.
Which application should I use?
Use the professional application if you are applying for the following positions: principal, assistant principal, teacher, coach, librarian, counselor, LSSP, diagnostician, speech language pathologist, nurse, occupational therapist, physical therapist, or athletic trainer position.
Use the standard application if you are applying for the following positions: instructional assistant, clerical/secretarial/administrative assistant staff, technology, custodial, maintenance, or nutrition/food service staff.
Use the transfer application if you are a GISD employee applying for any open position (professional, standard, or transfer openings). When a position is marked as Transfer, it is ONLY open to GISD candidates. Other positions are open to all qualified candidates, both within the district and outside the district.
Do I need to include a job posting number on my application?
You must include a job posting number (listed on the Job Postings page and on the job description itself under How to Apply) for a current opening in order to be considered as part of the applicant pool for that position.
Can I fill out an online application even if none of the current
job postings match my qualifications?
You may complete the online application at any time. However, your chances
of being considered as a candidate for employment are greatly increased
when you specify a job posting number in your application for which you
meet all the requirements listed. For a list of current job posting numbers,
visit the Job Postings page.
What items should I have ready before beginning the application process?
You will need your education history, work history information, references
and reference phone numbers, your driver's license number, and a cover letter
and resume in Word format if you would like to submit them with your application
(optional, but recommended).
What if I hold an out-of-state
teaching certificate or credential?
Applicants with out-of-state certificates or credentials should
go to the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) website at www.sbec.state.tx.us for
information regarding certification based on credentials from outside of
Texas and the application procedures. For questions, please contact SBEC at 512-863-5880 (local) or 888-863-5880 (toll free).
Due to the No Child Left Behind Highly Qualified Teacher Standards, all teachers hired by GISD must be highly qualified in the core content area they will teach (Math, English, Special Education, Science, Social Studies, Dance, Art, Music, Theatre Arts, and all Foreign Languages). GISD will not offer employment to anyone from out-of-state that has not applied for a Review of Credential (ROC), a Texas One Year Certificate (OYC), and passed the appropriate content exam.
