This year, 2007-2008, we have covered bicycle safety during the 4th week of school.  We stressed the importance of wearing a helmet to protect your brain.  We also talked about wearing protective equipment anytime you ride a bike, skateboard, ride a scooter, roller blade or roller skate.  Some of the bicycle rules we will cover are listed below.

  1. Always wear a helmet.

  2. Ride with a parent or older brother or sister.

  3. Walk your bike across the street at the crosswalk.

  4. Look left, right, then left again before crossing.

  5. Make sure your bike has reflectors.

  6. Wear bright clothing.

  7. Never ride at night.

  8. Use hand signals when turning and stopping.

  9. Ride with the traffic.

  10. Obey all traffic signs and rules.

  11. Ride in a single file line.

  12. Be careful going around hills and curves.

  13. Don't RIDE OUT from driveways, between cars or anywhere from the side of the street without stopping and looking for cars.

Be safe, helmet your head, obey traffic laws.

Here are some really good websites you can visit.  We demonstrated them during P.E. with the students.
