On page you will find our first letter home of the year and our discipline plan.
Dear Parents
Welcome to a brand new school year! We are excited about having your child here at Carver Elementary. We had a super year last year and look forward to a FANTASTIC year this year. Your child’s coaches this year will be Paul McQueen, Diane Beauchemin and Twyla Allen. We all are looking forward to a great year here at Carver.
This year we will be working
on many things in our classes. We will work on listening skills, sport
skills, sportsmanship, games, rhythms, health and fitness. We do need your
help so that your child can get the most out of our class. First we need all
children to come dressed appropriately. This includes girls wearing shorts
under their dresses and all students wearing shoes that will not hinder their
movement or performance (preferably tennis shoes). If needed, feel free to
send shoes to change into for P.E. class if your child wears shoes that might
not be appropriate for participating in P.E. Boots and dress shoes can be a
danger to the child wearing them and to other students.
If your child is unable to participate in class for any reason because of an illness or other health concerns, please let us know by calling the office at 943-5070 or sending a note with your child to school. Also, if you have any other important information you feel we should have please let us know. Feel free to come by anytime to visit your child’s class. Please read our Discipline Plan below. Thanks.
Sincerely
Carver Elementary P.E.

Behavior Plan
In P.E. class here at Carver we like to reward students for good behavior as much as possible. We often give stickers to students who exhibit awesome behavior and have a Treasure Box and a pencil box that students can pick from at times when given permission. We reward classes by keeping a chart of how many days no one in the class had to move their pin. We use verbal praise as much as possible to let them know they are doing great and we like to give them 2 thumbs up, the hand signal, very often and we like to do the Firecracker, it’s a special clap and sizzle to show appreciation for a job well done.
We also use a 3 strike system to monitor any misbehavior. Every student has a clothespin with their name and their teachers name on it. We have a wall chart for each grade level. We give each student, and sometimes the class as a whole if needed, a verbal warning for the first step. When a student is not participating correctly or behaves in an unacceptable manner they are told to move their pin. The first color they put it on is Yellow. If the student needs redirection again, he moves his or her pin to Red. If the student is redirected again their pin is put on the time-out card and the student is then in time-out for the remainder of the class. If there is any further problem or the misbehavior is very serious such as fighting they will be sent to see the Principal. I have listed below the steps in a numbered sequence.
We begin with a Verbal Warning to the student, or the entire class when needed.
1st Redirection – Student moves his or her pin to Yellow.
2nd Redirection – Student moves his or her pin to Red.
3rd Redirection – Student move his or her pin to the Time-out Card.
Notes Home
If a student moves his or her pin 3 times during one class we will send a note home to the parents that day.
If a student moves his or her pin, 3 different days during one week but did not move it to time-out any of those days, we will send a note home.
If you have any questions about anything be sure and let us know. We look forward to working with your child and having a great year at Carver Elementary.
