November P.E. Notes

Happy Halloween.  We hope you have a safe and enjoyable Halloween.  We have many things coming up in November that we want you to be aware of as well as the things we have covered this past month.

We watched a video on Bus Safety and Evacuations.  This video is shown district wide and then the Transportation Dept. of GISD sent over buses for every student to practice these evacuations.  Thanks GISD for helping us with this.

There has been a confirmed case of the Flu at the High School so we want to continue to remind everyone of the importance of washing hands especially as winter is approaching and germs are spread more this time of the year.

We still have some Chick-Fil-A ice cream coupon and a Gattiland Buffet coupon for students who bring a picture of themselves with their bicycle while wearing their helmet.  Send us those pictures and we will put them on our wall in the gym and give the students who bring them the coupons.

America Recycles Day November 15th.  This is the official day but we will be talking about it on the 13th and we hope everyone remembers to do their part to help save our planets resources by recycling as much as possible.  Remember we recycle paper in the green and yellow bin in the parking lot we recycle aluminum cans, cell phones and printer cartridges also.  Thanks

We are continuing to run during class to log miles trying to reach 26.2 mile for each student.  We are once again participating in The Marathon Kid’s running program.  If you signed up be sure and log your mileage your child is running at home.  We will keep track of what they run here at school.  We usually run enough here at school for them to be able to get a free T-Shirt.  Our website has more info and pictures.  You can still sign up we hope your child will join us.

Born To Run – We are also participating in a district wide program that is associated with Run Tex called Born to Run.  Our district program is called GT (Georgetown) Fit.  We will begin the program December 1st and every student here at Carver will be receiving a T-Shirt to begin the program.  It will end with a 5K run sometime in the spring.  We want to thank Sunshine Webster, Jackie Holcomb and Michelle Tate for their hard work in this effort.

Check Our Website Out - We put our current lessons we are covering in Health along with links to other cool websites about those topics.  We also have current events that are going on and important dates to know about.  Also on the home page there will be 3 questions.  Have your child bring the answers to the questions to P.E. class and your child will receive a prize.  Our website address is: http://www.georgetownisd.org/carver/mcqueenp/

Stranger SafetyWe watched a video put out by Julie Clark and John Walsh on being safe around adults.  In the video Safe Side Superchick talked about who your Safe Side Adults are and Kinda Knows and Don’t Knows.  Ask your child what they remember about this presentation.  It is an award winning video and had great tips on keeping our kids safe.  You are welcome to come and check it out and watch it with your family at home.

Halloween Safety Tips

Just wanted to send home to our parents some Halloween safety information we have been talking about in class.  If you type in “Halloween Safety” in the address bar of your computer you can find many sites with great safety information. One of the best sites I saw was http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/hallow.html.  This was the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.  Here are a few tips about Halloween night activities to help make it a safe and fun filled evening.

  1. Don’t let children eat their candy until the parents have checked it.  Don’t eat opened or candy that has a tear in it.
  2. Don’t eat candy that’s unwrapped.
  3. Children under 12 should have adult supervision.  Over 12 always stay in pairs.
  4. Don’t wear dark costumes unless you have reflective material or tape on it.
  5. Don’t wear masks that limit your vision.
  6. Cross the street at cross walks and don’t run between cars.
  7. Have a flashlight and be careful when going up to people’s houses, use sidewalks.
  8. Find Fall Festival type activities to go to.  They have a lot of games, sometimes food and are a lot of fun.
  9. Parent’s when driving BE CAREFUL!   Many children are hit by cars on this night.
