We have shown the students a Bus Safety video during P.E. class that stressed how important following bus safety rules are.  If your child rides a school bus to school be sure you talk about the following safety rules with your child.  All GISD students will ride a bus sometime during their school years so all students should know them.

BUS SAFETY
  1. Always listen to the bus driver and follow their rules.

  2. Stay seated

  3. Keep head and hands inside the bus, ALWAYS.

  4. Only 2 people to a seat if possible.

  5. Be polite to the other riders.

  6. Be careful when loading and unloading.  Walk 5 steps away from the bus and stay on the sidewalk or away from the bus.

  7. Walk 10 steps forward before crossing in front of the bus and make eye contact with the driver to make sure they see you before you cross in front of the bus.

  8. If you drop something near the bus NEVER GO TO GET IT.  Let an adult get it for you.

  9. Stay away from the DANGER ZONES of a bus.  This is an area that extends 5 feet out from and all around the bus.

  10. Talk quietly to others so not to distract the driver.

  11. Always look both ways when crossing traffic.  Look Left, then right then left again.

  12. If the bus has seat belts, use them.

Remember to be safe and considerate of others!
