Dear Parent

We talked with the students last week about handling emergency situation at home during their P.E. class.  Knowing how to react, and identify people to turn to for help in emergency situations, are essential safety skills.

Children need to know where to call, how to call and what information to give to help in these situations.  In class we learned about calling 911 and practiced how to talk with the emergency operator.  The students learned to stay calm, dial 911, and wait patiently.  They also learned to stay on the phone with the operator until a fireman, policeman, or a paramedic comes to help.

We also know it is important for each child to know his own address and phone number.  The activity on the back is for you to work with your child and then keep it at home so they can practice learning that information.  We have included learning their your cell phone number because we feel when something happens and you all are away from home they need to be able to reach you.

Thank you for your time and assistance with this activity.  Be sure and let us know of any concerns or information you would like us to be aware of.
