Technology :: Web Publishing

GISD has over 800 classroom websites and provides web site templates year-round training to support teachers who are interested in web publishing.  Sign up for a class or contact your facilitator for additional information.

Getting Started

Want to share information on your classes, schedule, and assignments, and showcase student work for parents and students? GISD provides two different tools for web publishing: FrontPage and SiteBuilder.

  • Web Publishing Regulations
District guidelines for content, design, and the use of student names, photos, and work.

  • FrontPage Manual for Teachers
Newly updated in 2008, this manual explains how to customize and publish a teacher web template using FrontPage.

  • SiteBuilder Manual for Teachers
Want to maintain a simple website using only your browser? Sites created with this tool don't allow picture or document uploads but are appropriate for those who are beginners and want something simple and easy to maintain.

Student Web Projects

Integrate web publishing into the classroom!  Several GISD teachers have developed integrated lessons with FrontPage.  Visit the following pages for great examples of student web projects:

Getting Recognized

GISD has implemented a Classroom Web Award program to recognize outstanding teacher web sites.  Nominations are made by campus technology facilitators in January each year. The web site must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Overall design and navigation must be consistent and easy to use

  • Content must be professional and appropriate to educational objectives & GISD web publishing policy

  • Must be updated at least once every nine weeks

  • Must be created and maintained by the teacher or staff member

  • Examples of class/program work and projects

  • Current assignments, handouts, lesson plans, grading criteria, and/or 9-week course outlines

Staff members receive recognition on the district web site, a certificate, an award graphic for their web site, and be eligible for the elementary, middle school/high school, and program web site of the year award.  Be sure to visit our award-winning classroom websites for inspiration and ideas!
