Volunteering at GISD
Looking for a chance to make a difference in the lives of children? There are many volunteer opportunities in the Georgetown schools, such as:
Mentoring
Mentors offer students ongoing guidance for their personal and academic growth. Community members can volunteer to become mentors by committing to participation in the program for one school year, meeting with an assigned student for 30 minutes once a week on school grounds, agreeing to a background check from the Department of Public Safety, and attending an initial two-hour mentor training session and at least one mentor sharing session.
Tutoring
Provide tutoring in math, reading, writing, and homework assignments for students in 1st through 8th grades with the GISD school district.
Mentoring & tutoring programs are administered by Partners in Education. For more information, contact 943-5175.
School Activities
Want to help out with teacher appreciation days, the school newsletter, or other activities on your child's campus? There are also many school volunteer opportunities through each school's PTA. Contact the your school or the PTA president for information about these opportunities.
Background Checks
In order to ensure the safety of our students, Georgetown
Independent School District requires all volunteers to pass a criminal
history background check. GISD is authorized by state law to obtain
criminal history record information on individuals who intend to serve as
volunteers for the district (Texas Education Code 22.083).
The volunteer background check form may
be completed online. The Human Resources Department processes the
background check information and can answer questions you may have about
this process.
