Math:  Since we have a short week and are having some special events, we will not be starting the next chapter until after the holiday.  At that time, we will be beginning 2 digit multiplication using an area model.  It is very different from the traditional methods to multiply so be prepared to learn something new from your child!  Please continue to practice those pesky multiplication facts with your child every night.  All of the students have been given passes to enable them to come to my room at 7:30 for homework help if needed - actually, I have been helping out in the CEI lab, so if your child needs homework help, they can find me there.

      Science

We will be finishing weather this week with some practice predicting weather and as assessment on Tuesday.  When we get back from the holiday, we will begin a unit on water on the Earth and learn about the water cycle, waves, tides, and how water can shape the land slowly over time.

Social Studies:

We are finishing up our study of Native Americans the next two weeks.  The students have taken notes about the different tribes that once lived in Texas.  They will be using these notes to create a multimedia show about a tribe of their choosing.

Writing:

We will continue to learn and practice grammar and punctuation through out the year, but now the students will begin composition writing.  The students have begun their turkey project.  I can't wait to see the results!

Spelling:

Look on the Assignment page for the lists of spelling words.  Spelling homework should be done every night.

Cursive:

We have begun the year with a quick review of the cursive that the students learned in 3rd grade.  We will continue to review 1 letter per week.

 Junior Master Gardener

We are still trying to get out to the butterfly garden to harvest the Hyacinth beans.  The students heard a story, Plantzilla, and they will be doing various activities related to the book.

  Library:

Library will be every other Thursday.  If students need to visit the library on our "off" week, they can go in the morning by getting a library pass from the teachers on duty.  Our next Library day is scheduled for Nov. 12.

Upcoming Events:

Nov. 23.....................................Turkey due

Nov.23.....................................Story teller

Nov. 25 - 27............Thanksgiving holiday

  Reading

The students have been assigned a book report on a fiction book that will be due Dec. 16.  They have selected their books at the library, and at this time should be reading them at home.  More information about the report will be coming home soon. Book clubs continue to meet with me 2 - 4 times a week.  On Fridays the students are learning strategies to decode multisyllabic words using a program called, Rewards.
