Welcome to my home page!  I am a seventh grade Language Arts teacher at Forbes Middle School.

My goal is to teach my students how to be effective communicators, to think analytically, and to become increasingly comfortable using technology.

bullet Writing: to inform, to narrate, to persuade, to express and poetry
bullet Reading: recognize distinguishing characteristics of genres, comprehension, theme, interpretation of figurative language and other literary devices

bullet Vocabulary Development: structural analysis of words (Greek and Latin roots, prefixes and suffixes), vocabulary from class novels, tone vocabulary, and connotative and denotative word meanings
bullet Grammar: capitalization, punctuation, parts of speech, subject/ verb agreement, pronoun referents, etc. (skills will be taught through mini-lessons and in the context of students' own writing)
bullet Persuasion techniques: in advertising, speeches, and other forms of media
bullet Research: generate specific questions, look for information in reliable sources, organize relevant information, and properly document information using the Modern Language Association's format
