Welcome to my home page! My name is Monica DeLeon and I am a 7th grade Texas history teacher at Forbes Middle School. It is my pleasure to be working with your child and broadening their knowledge of the great history of Texas.

The Alamo website provides information about the battle and the Texas history context in which the battle was fought.  It provides guidelines for visiting the Alamo,

American Wind Power Center, Lubbock 

The American Wind Power Center is a comprehensive collection of historic windmills.  As a part of the website, the Windmill Gallery includes photographs of several

Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, Austin                                                                     

The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin tells the "Story of Texas."  The website includes key events in history for the current month.  From February 11

 through April 15, the museum features a special exhibit, A Slave Ship Speaks: The Wreck of the Henrietta Marie.  The exhibit includes a scale model of a slave ship,

artifacts from the ship and information about the archaeological recovery of the ship off the coast of Florida near Key West.

The Brazoria County Historical Museum is a repository for collections relating to people, events and places in Brazoria County.  Austin Town is a living history

George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, College Station                            

The Bush Library and Museum is the repository for the documents of the presidency of George H.W. Bush and includes exhibits that focus of his personal and public life.

George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center                                       

The George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center is part of the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department.  Three permanent exhibits include an exhibit on

Juneteenth, a children's exhibit on African-American scientists and inventors and an exhibit on African-American families in Austin.  The Carver Museum is the first museum

Celebrate Texas                                                                                                                             

The goal of Celebrate Texas is to promote Texas Independence Day and the history of Texas and its people.  Ceremonies are held each year at the State Cemetery on

March 2, and a parade is held in Austin on the Saturday nearest March 2.  Celebrate Texas sponsors art and essay contests for elementary, middle school and high school

French Legation Museum, Austin

The French Legation Museum, located in Austin, was built as the residence of the chargé d'affaires, representing the French government during the Republic of Texas.

Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum, Austin

The Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum is the presidential library of Lyndon B. Johnson and is the repository of documents from his administration along with other

 collections.  The museum tells the story of events during President Johnson's life.  In addition, there is a First Lady exhibit highlighting the contributions of Lady Bird Johnson.

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

Neill-Cochran House Museum, Austin

The Neill-Cochran House Museum is an elegant colonial home built by Abner Cook, the builder of the Governor's Mansion.  A visit to the Neill-Cochran provides and experience

Elizabeth Ney Museum, Austin

The Elizabeth Ney Museum in Austin includes the studio and portrait collection of sculptor Elizabeth Ney.  The museum offers visitors a glimpse into early Texas history and

into the life of Elizabeth Ney.  A fourth grade curriculum written for Austin ISD is available on the website for any district visiting the museum to use.

Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, Canyon

The Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum shares stories of life in the Texas Panhandle.  Exhibits, with links, include:  fine art, furniture and decorative art, paleontology,

Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection

The University of Texas at Austin This map collection goes well beyond Texas to all parts of the world, both present and past.  The website lists maps of current interest,

general interest plus historical maps.  A little over 5000 of the 250,000 maps in the collection have been scanned and are available on-line.

The Portal to Texas History provides Primary Source Adventures, which are units that bring together multiple primary source historical documents.  This site offers students

Sam Houston Memorial Museum, Huntsville

The Sam Houston Memorial Museum is dedicated to the story of Sam Houston, who was general, governor, president of Texas and senator.  The website provides a virtual

San Antonio Missions National Historical Park

The four Spanish missions of Conception, Espada, San Jose and San Juan Capistrano in San Antonio make up the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.

San Jacinto:  Battleground for the Lone Star, La Porte

The San Jacinto Museum of History site provides information about events during the Republic of Texas that includes the Battle of San Jacinto.  Two timelines include the key

Spanish Governor's Palace, San Antonio 

The Spanish Governor's Palace is operated by the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department.  The website provides a post card tour of the palace.

Star of the Republic Museum, Washington-on-the-Brazos

The State of Texas Museum, at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park, depicts the story of the Republic of Texas and is located at the site where the Texas Declaration of

Texas Beyond History (TBH)   

Texas Beyond History is a public education service provided by the Texas Archeological Research Laboratory at The University of Texas at Austin in partnership with thirteen

other organizations.  This virtual museum includes an immense amount of information about Texas and it cultural heritage of 13,500 years.  This site should be used on a

regular basic for fourth grade and seventh grade Texas history classes.

The Capitol Visitors Center provides information for visiting the center as well as a collection of historic photos.   A teacher's guide provides information about pre-visit

Texas Governor's Mansion, Austin

The Governor's Mansion website provides several suggested classroom activities.  The website includes a section for students and provides materials to students about the

The Texas Memorial Museum focuses on natural and social science in Texas.  The website provides numerous teacher resources and activities for students.

The Texas Military Forces Museum, located at Camp Mabry in Austin, presents the story of the Texas Military from the Texas Revolution to the present.  A virtual tour of some of the exhibits is provided on the website.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife website has information on a number of topics:  Fishing and Boating, Hunting and Wildlife, Land and Water, and State Parks and Destinations.

Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum

The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum, in Waco, is the official museum for the Texas Rangers.   The website provides Information about the history of the Texas

Rangers including badges, firearms and artifacts.  A virtual tour of some of the exhibits is available on-line.

Texas Tides Project

Texas Tides Digital Learning Consortium is sponsored by Stephen F. Austin State University in partnership with several other institutions to link learners with primary
