Dear Future Band
Member/Band Parent:
Thank you for your interest in the Forbes Middle School Band Program! We hope
that your child will find the band experience to be a rewarding and enriching
activity for next year and beyond! Being in band creates a sense of belonging
and identity to students as they begin their middle school years. Many of the
experiences and friendships they develop in a musical group will enrich their
lives for the future.
The Forbes band directors are Jackie Fullerton and Lauren Park-
Esparza. We may be reached at the
numbers and e-mail addresses listed on our home page. We will return any
messages as soon as possible, and look forward to answering your questions.
If you are considering enrolling your son or daughter in the band, here are some
“quick facts” which will hopefully help in your decision process:
➢ 6th Grade is the only opportunity to enroll in entry-level band.
➢ No previous music experience is necessary.
➢ Instruments are obtained from approved music vendors, which offer affordable
“rent to own programs. Some specialty expensive instruments are rented through
the school, such as french horns, bassoons, oboe, tuba and euphonium.
➢ Every child that enrolls in band is in band – there are no auditions or
try-outs.
➢ Students are screened to find the most appropriate instrument for them
depending on
size, physical characteristics, aptitude and balanced instrumentation.
➢ After-school practices are not expected of 6th grade band students.
➢ Students CAN be in both athletics and band in their 7th and 8th grade year.
We will be hosting an information night to give you the specifics regarding the
band program, especially in the area of instrument selection and screening. This
program is scheduled for Friday, April 24th from 5:00pm-7:00pm. This will be held at the high school
music building. All music directors will be there to answer any questions
that you might have.
We are looking forward to meeting you and your child as you begin the exciting
journey of band and music at Forbes Middle School.
