Famine in Africa
Stephanie M.
What is my research topic? What are some research keywords?
- My research topic is Famine in Africa.
- Some keywords I used to help me were: hunger, starvation, Famine, and
Africa.
What does Famine mean? What is the description of Famine?
- Famine is a prolonged food shortage that causes widespread hunger and
death.
- Famine causes you to lose nutrients that weakens the body, which can
lead to starvation, diseases, and maybe even death.
- The cause of famine is drought which is lack of rainfall.
- Famine can also be caused by hurricanes, earthquakes, and many more.
- Crop failure is one of the major causes of famine, when the rain falls
the soil becomes dry which causes drought.
Why is Famine important to Africa?
- Drought and other difficult weather conditions in many of the effected
countries are bringing low harvest.
- It is at that 38 million people are living
under the threat of starvation.
- As the population grows in Africa, Africa can't provide enough food for
everyone.
Why is Famine a problem in Africa?
- Its a problem because drought and weather are bringing up the food
prices, which is causing the impact of HIV/AIDS and leaving people to
starve.
- The farmers are either eating their seeds for crops to avoid
starvation or they're too weak to plant crops.
- Because of Famine Africa is the only region in the world becoming less
and less able to feed itself.
- Famine could get so out of hand it could lead to war.
- Africa is increasing food supplies but it is also having more problems
with HIV/AIDS and is threaten the whole country.
How does Famine affect the people in Africa?
- They are having to trade their animals for food, eat their seeds before
planting season begins, and most of the young and old are dying the
fastest.
- Many Africans are having to steal goods and sell them in order to get
food.
- Most Africans are moving to rural areas or cities where food might be
available for them.
- The effect of Famine is when African Farmers go to war with other
countries and there would be no crops planted at that time.
- The enemies in war would also burn their crops so shipment wasn't
possible.
What does the rest of the world (not Africans) think about Famine?
- The United Nations (UN) and several other international organizations
provide emergency help for Famine victims.
- Various agencies also work to increase the worlds food supply and thus
prevent future Famine.
- In Africa desertification and drought are causing problems in places
like Ethiopia, Zambia and many more.
- Southern Africa has the worlds highest HIV infection, but the UN has it
that each year the percentage goes up in Africa because of drought and
starvation.
-
What can you do to fix the problem of Famine?
- Organizations are having the most challenge mobilizing enough food,
medical care, and other assistance to prevent loss of life in the Famine
stricken countries.
- The government should help small farmers to grow more food.
- The government should quit exporting so much food and give some to the
starving.
What is my personal opinion and reaction to Famine?
- I think Famine is the worst thing, people are loosing their loved ones
because of food shortage.
- Africa is one of the major countries that is suffering from Famine and
is trying to fix it.
- I think that we should really help the hunger by donating food and money
to them.
- In famine stricken places I think she should have a shelter that
has food, medical care, and a place for them to sleep.
- Our countries should really try to help and see how badly the people in
Africa look and try to see their point of view on how their life is compared
to ours.
