What is my research topic? What are some keywords I used to research?

• My research topic is poaching in Africa.
• Some keywords I used are: endangered, illegal hunting, views, and problem.

What does poaching mean? What is the definition or description of poaching?

• Poaching is the illegal hunting of any wild animals.
• It threatens the survival of many endangered species.
• Poachers can be fined or arrested.
• They used to be able to be executed, but today we don't use such severe punishment.
•  Poachers are not smiled upon.

Why is poaching important to Africa?

• It's important because it's killing many animals and some that are only native to Africa.
• Many people believe the different parts of an animal have magical properties.
• The rhinoceroses' powdered horn is believed to have healing qualities.
• Asians will buy their horns at high prices.
• The poachers will grow rich on their sales and they know it.

Why is poaching a problem or issue in Africa?

• Because it kills millions of species every year.
• In tropical forests, biologists estimate that three species were being extinguished every hour.
• Poaching doesn't leave many animals for the people who hunt to eat.
• Basically, poaching is animal murder and many people don't see it that way.
• Think of the animals people!!

How does poaching  effect the people in Africa?

• Many Africans think that killing an animal for a certain body part is wrong.
• Poachers are severely punished if caught.
• People can be accused of poaching if ivory items, pelts, or other body parts are found in their homes and they don't have a recite.
• The guards at Chad National Park find dead elephants all the time.
• They take the tusks to a safe at head quarters so the poachers can't make a profit.

What does the rest of the world (not Africans) think about poaching? What is the global reaction to poaching?

• Many people find it wrong and are prepared to use violence to stop it.
• Police and rangers are sent to investigate the killing of animals.
• They are very fortunate if they actually catch the poachers.
• The number of poaching cases is going down some places, but thriving in others.
• Police say the poachers are getting smarter and not leaving the remains to be found.

What can be done to help the problem of poaching? what is being done to correct poaching?

• To stop the poaching of endangered species, we can create parks where they will be safe.
• Scientists classify animals as "Game Animals" (animals plentiful enough to be hunted) and "Non-Game Animals" (animals not plentiful enough to be hunted) so the hunting rate of endangered animals will go down.
• They also set a certain time and place for legal hunting called hunting season.
• Hunting out of season can be called poaching and is punishable by law.
• Guards and rangers are hired to protect animals in National Parks.

  What is my personal opinion of poaching? How do I react and feel about poaching?  

• I think that poaching is wrong.
• The killing of animals just for their pelts or horns.
• Many animal species have gone extinct from poaching.
• The fact that people are taking precautions to stop poaching is a good thing.
• poaching should be stopped.
