This is a list of the major
projects we will work during the school year. All projects will be counted as
test grades.
Island Survival (First
Nine Weeks)
Students construct an imaginary island, and equip the island
for their survival by making choices about resources, climate, latitude and
longitude, and ocean

Europe: Clash of Nations Project (Second Nine Weeks)
Students work in cooperative learning groups to become
successful European countries by utilizing their economic, political and
military power. To see more detailed directions, please see the

Current Events Project (Second Semester 2008, Pre-AP only)
Students individually research and present to class an
article from a major news source. For mor information, you can see

African Country Web Page (Third Nine Weeks, 2008)
Students create and publish a web page using research about
an current issue or contemporary historical event in Africa. Please take a look
at the student Web Pages from the 2007 school year,
as well as 2008.

Class Service Project (Fourth
Nine Weeks, 2006)

During the Asia Unit, we learned about the
dynamics of Chinese family life and the overcrowding of Chinese orphanages. For three
weeks, Mrs. Jaubert-Smith's social studies students collected books and money for
Libraries of Love, a
non-profit charity through Great Wall of
China Adoption Agency.
