        Dear Parents & Students,

Can you believe school is starting already?  I am excited about a new year and new faces.  Middle school is a big challenge, so I’ve outlined our class expectations to help your child succeed this year in math.

Daily Supplies:

Students need to bring to class daily:  Their notebook, which will have 5 dividers and will be expected to be organized!, notebook paper, 2 sharpened pencils (or mechanical) with erasers, a colored pen for grading, and the assignment completed from the previous day.  It is Very Important To Keep Notes, Graded Daily Assignments, Quizzes and Tests!

Class Work/Homework Work (33.3%)

There will be an assignment given almost daily.  If the assignment is not finished during class or Stretch, it is to be completed at home that evening.  All homework is due at the beginning of the following class period unless otherwise specified.  All daily work is graded on the grading rubric provided.  It is important that parents encourage students to complete all of their homework.  If an assignment is not turned in, the student will receive a tally, after 5 cumulative tallies in all classes each nine weeks the student will serve an afterschool detention.

All assignments are to be worked in PENCIL ONLY and ALL WORK MUST BE SHOWN.

Tests/Projects (66.7%):

Grades in this category cover a moderate portion of material in a current unit of study.  Tests and Projects will be announced and will be scored by the teacher (or peers) and returned as corrective feedback to the individual student.

Major tests will usually cover multiple topics or concepts in a unit of study and will be scored by the teacher and returned as corrective feedback.  A parent signature and complete corrections will always be required for grades below 70.  Please encourage your child to review his/her daily assignments as well as their review sheet before the test.

Absent Work:  When a student is absent, he/she is responsible for all assignments missed.  Please remind your child to ask the teacher for their make-up work.  It is the child’s responsibility to request make-up work and come to tutorials to learn what was missed.  When absent, please check Ms. Squier’s webpage.  All assignments will be posted weekly.

Tutorials:

I will be available on Wednesday afternoon until 4:30 pm.  (If I must cancel a tutorial day, I will post it on my website prior to that day).  Students who have averages less than 75% are especially encouraged to attend tutorials.

I am looking forward to us working together in regard to your child’s education.  If you have any questions, or if I can be of any help, please contact me.  You can best reach me by email and I respond within 24 hours.  I strongly encourage you to visit my webpage daily

To get to the website, go to www.georgetownisd.org/forbes/squierj.  All assignments, notes, up coming events, reviews, lesson plans, math links, and much more important information will be there.
